CUMBIA FOR ALL!

Our “Cumbia for All” program is now virtual! Artists Anna Povich, Pablo Mayor and Daniel Fetecua have created a series of interactive videos with original music, theater, and dance to get seniors and families quarantined at home, moving, dancing, and actively reflecting on their heritage and culture. EL CIELO Y EL DOLOR (PARADISE & PAIN)

A powerful play for one actor about a trans woman who migrated from Colombia tells her heart-wrenching story while working as a prostitute in Queens. Directed by Germán Jaramillo, with Music by Pablo Mayor and Set, Costume and Lighting Design by Lucia della Paolera, this play has toured internationally to Colombia, Mexico and Europe since its premiere at ID Studio in 2018. Inspired by the play, we have created a series of short capsules celebrating the month of Pride. The series finds the protagonist of our play in present-day Bogota, Colombia during the period of confinement. Lean in and listen as "Alexandra", a trans immigrant sex worker, tell us stories, including of her journey coming to the United States. The entire play that is accessible for free on all our channels from July 1st-31st. There is a special presentation of “El cielo y el dolor” as a digital highlight in partnership with The Tank, from end of July through first week of August - see it HERE. The Tank is an Obie award-winning multi-disciplinary non-profit arts presenter and producer, which provides a home to emerging artists working across all disciplines, including theater, comedy, dance, film, music, puppetry, and storytelling.
